Rethinking Elderhood

With a little help, our elders can be active in their communities.

Our staff member, Lee, was listening to Fresh Air, the NPR radio show on his podcast list, and came across the June 17, 2019 edition, which was called A Clearer Map For Aging: ‘Elderhood’ Shows How Geriatricians Can Help.

The show interviews Louise Aronson, the author of Elderhood: Redefining Aging, Transforming Medicine, Reimagining Life. This new book talks about how the way we view aging as a dreaded event and the elderly as having little to contribute can be just wrong.

We plan to buy this book and read it ourselves, but wanted to give you a heads up if you want to read along with us. Many of us will spend longer in elderhood than we did in childhood, so we will want to get the most out of it.

We hope that Hearts Homes and Hands can be a small part of making elderhood a good life stage for as many people as possible.
